Yema Terms and Conditions

Last updated: October 18, 2026
In force: from October 18, 2026.
Published at: tryyema.com/en/terminos, with a version in each language.

These are the rules for using the Yema app and website. We wrote them in plain words. By creating an account, or by starting to use Yema on your phone, you accept them; if you don't agree, don't use the service. Nothing here limits the rights Colombian law or the law of your country gives you as a consumer.

1. Who we are

Yema ("Yema", "we", "us") is an app developed and run by Duvan Vargas, a private individual (persona natural), domiciled at Calle 32 #52b-150, Rionegro, Antioquia, Colombia. You can write to us at soporte@tryyema.com or reach us on LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/duvandroid).

2. What Yema is and isn't

Yema is a tool to log what you eat and look after your weight: your meals, water, weight and exercise, with a calorie and macro plan built with reference formulas and their sources, short lessons and, with Yema Plus, photos that recognize the dish, restaurant menu reading, recipes, a week plan, a chat with Yema and What to Order, which finds places nearby with Google Maps.

Yema is in the stores of many countries; for now not in the European Union, the European Economic Area, Switzerland or the United Kingdom. The provider is in Colombia, so these terms are governed by Colombian law; if you live in another country, you also keep the consumer rights your country's law gives you that can't be waived.

  • Yema is not a medical or professional nutrition service. It isn't a medical device and it doesn't diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. It doesn't replace your doctor, your dietitian or any health professional.
  • Yema is not an emergency service (section 3).
  • Yema doesn't sell food or place orders. It isn't a restaurant or a delivery app: it tells you what you could order and where; the order, payment and delivery are between you and the place or app you choose.
  • Calculations, recommendations and notices are for guidance and are based on what you log. Decisions about what you eat and about your health are yours.

3. Your health, allergies and emergencies

  • Talk to a professional before changing how you eat if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney or heart disease, take medicines that change your appetite or blood sugar, had weight-loss surgery, or have or had an eating disorder. With these conditions Yema adapts what it can, but it doesn't know everything your doctor knows.
  • Yema has safeguards, but they aren't a promise: it never suggests less than the reference calorie floors, doesn't give you a deficit when it isn't advisable, waits for your doctor before a weight-loss goal when you marked a health condition, and has a numbers-free mode. If something it suggests doesn't suit you, stop and see a professional.
  • Allergies. Yema filters what it suggests using the allergies you tell it, but it can't assure you that a dish, a recipe or a product contains no allergen or traces of one. Menus, labels and third-party data may be incomplete or wrong, and recipes vary from place to place. When it doesn't know, Yema says "unknown", never "allergen-free". If you have an allergy or celiac disease, always confirm the ingredients with the place or on the package before eating. Don't use Yema to decide whether a food is safe for a severe allergy.
  • Emergencies. If you have chest pain, shortness of breath, a severe allergic reaction, thoughts of harming yourself or any other emergency, call your country's emergency number now (in Colombia, 123; in the U.S., 911). If you write something like that in the chat, Yema shows you your country's number, but it doesn't alert anyone, may not recognize every emergency, and doesn't replace real help.

4. Figures and AI

  • Calories and nutrients are estimates. Those from a photo, a menu or a restaurant are approximate: almost no restaurant publishes its data, portions vary and Yema may mistake a food. That's why they carry "≈" and a range. Review and adjust what you log.
  • Yema uses artificial intelligence (Gemini, by Google) to recognize dishes, read menus, understand what you dictate, suggest recipes and reply in the chat. AI can make mistakes: double-check anything important.
  • Sources. Formulas and reference figures carry their source. If a source changes or is wrong, we fix it as soon as we know.
  • Places, opening hours and prices in What to Order come from Google Maps and may be out of date. Yema doesn't own those places or recommend them in exchange for payment: it doesn't charge restaurants.

5. Your account

  • You must be 18 or older to use Yema. If your date of birth shows you're under 18, Yema doesn't continue.
  • You sign in with Apple, with Google or with a code we email you. Keep your phone and your email secure: whoever has them can get into your account.
  • An account belongs to one person. Don't share your account or log for someone else.
  • The information you give must be true, especially your date of birth and your plan data: your plan's safety depends on it.
  • On this phone only. If, when saving your plan, you don't tick the box to keep your health data in your account, or if you use Yema without an account, you use Yema just the same, but what you log stays only on your phone, with no copy in the cloud: if you delete the app, change phones or lose it, it's lost. You can change this at any time in More > Privacy.

6. The free plan

Without paying you can log by search, by barcode, by repeating a meal or with your usual day; see your calorie, protein and fiber rings; track water, your weight with its trend and your exercise; connect Apple Health or Health Connect; and have your streak, lessons, Your month, widgets and the download of your data.

We may add to or improve what the free plan includes. If we ever reduce it, we'll tell you in advance and we'll never delete what you've already logged.

7. Yema Plus and its limits

Yema Plus adds what uses artificial intelligence or Google Maps: photos of a plate, a label, your fridge and a menu; dictation that separates each item; What to Order; the chat with Yema; recipes; the week plan; and searching for products on the web.

  • Limits. Each feature has a daily or monthly limit, which the app shows you before you use it: up to 10 photos a day, 15 dictations a day, 20 chat messages a day, 3 menus a day, 15 What to Order searches a month, 4 week plans a month with 20 swaps, 30 recipes a month and 10 web products a month. Changing a filter on what Yema already brought doesn't count.
  • Fair use. Besides those limits, each account has a monthly usage limit. If you go over it, answers first become shorter and then AI features pause until the next month. We tell you in the app when you're getting close. The rest of Yema stays the same.
  • Service pauses. To protect the service, AI features may pause for a while for everyone if a safety limit is exceeded. Meanwhile, logging by search, barcode or by hand works as usual. If a pause leaves you unable to use Yema Plus for more than 3 days in a row, write to us and we'll help you request a refund for that time.
  • The price. Yema Plus costs US$7.99 a month or US$49.99 a year. The final price, in your currency and with any taxes the store applies, is shown in the app and in the store before you pay. If what you see in the store when paying differs from this document, what the store shows you at the time of purchase applies.

8. Payments, automatic renewal and cancellation

  • All payments are made in the App Store or Google Play, with the payment method on your Apple or Google account, and are charged when you confirm the purchase. Yema doesn't receive or store card details. The purchase is also subject to the store's terms. The app checks the status of your purchase with RevenueCat, the service we use for that (section 3 of the privacy policy).
  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period (month or year) at the same price, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. The store charges the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends and shows you the renewal date.
  • You can cancel at any time, without penalty, in the subscription settings of your Apple account (Settings > your name > Subscriptions) or Google Play (Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions). You keep Plus until the end of the period you paid for.
  • No free trial. Yema Plus has no free trial: it's charged when you confirm the purchase. What's free in Yema is the free plan (section 6).
  • Restore purchases: if you change phones or reinstall the app, sign in with the same Yema account and use "Restore purchases" on the Yema Plus screen.
  • Price changes: if a price changes, we'll tell you in advance and the new price will apply from the next renewal, with whatever confirmation the store requires. You can cancel before it applies.
  • Refunds: decided and handled by the store where you bought, under its policy. On Google Play we can also issue a refund ourselves; on the App Store only Apple can, and we'll help you request it. Write to soporte@tryyema.com.
  • Right of withdrawal in Colombia: since it's a distance purchase, you have 5 business days from the purchase to withdraw (Law 1480 of 2011, Art. 47). The law excludes services that started with your agreement, and Yema Plus starts as soon as you buy; even so, if you withdraw within those 5 business days, we'll help you request a refund from the store, which is made within 30 calendar days when it applies. If you paid by card and there was fraud or a charge you didn't authorize, you can also ask your bank to reverse the payment (Art. 51).
  • If you live in Brazil: you have 7 days from the purchase to change your mind (Consumer Protection Code, Art. 49). You request it from the store (Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com; Google Play: its refund request) or write to us and we'll help.

9. If your plan expires or you cancel it

When the paid period ends you go back to the free plan and nothing is deleted: your diary, weight, recipes, week and grocery list are still there. You just can't use Plus features until you return to it.

10. Notifications and emails

Phone notifications (your meals, water, streak) are free, scheduled by your phone and depend on its permissions. We do our best for them to arrive on time, but they aren't a medical alarm.

Today we only write to you for the service: for example, the sign-in code, replies to your requests, important notices about your account or your subscription and the confirmation that your account was deleted. We don't send summaries or news by email; if we ever do, we'll tell you first and you'll be able to turn them off at any time, with their switch in the app and with the link in each email. No email or notification shows your weight or calories.

11. Acceptable use

You may not use Yema to:

  • use it if you're under 18, or create an account for a minor;
  • impersonate someone else or log another person's health data without their permission;
  • give or receive medical guidance for other people as if Yema were a professional service;
  • upload photos of other people, illegal content or content you don't have rights to;
  • try to make the AI produce harmful content, bypass its safeguards or use it for anything other than food and your plan;
  • automate use of the app, extract data in bulk (including Google Maps data), overload the service or get around your plan's limits;
  • resell Yema or access to its features;
  • copy, decompile or reverse-engineer the app, except as the law allows;
  • attack the service, test its security without permission or access other people's accounts;
  • share recipes, foods or dishes with insults, sexual content, ads, links, contact details or other people's data, or share dishes you did not eat at that place.

If you find a security flaw, tell us at soporte@tryyema.com and don't exploit it.

12. Your data, your content and our brand

  • What you log is yours. You give us permission, free of charge, non-exclusive and worldwide, only to store it, process it, show it to you and send it to our processors to provide the service, as explained in the privacy policy (tryyema.com/en/privacidad), while you have an account. We don't publish it or use it for anything else, and you can delete it whenever you want.
  • Product data. Today, what you read from a label stays in your diary and in your account. If we ever add that data to a Yema food database for other people to use, only the package data will go (name, brand, barcode, nutrition table and ingredients), without your photo and without your identity, and we'll tell you first. That data describes a product, not you. We'll never send it to Open Food Facts, where it would be public under an open license, without asking you first.
  • Your feedback. If you give us ideas or suggestions, we can use them to improve Yema without owing you anything, but we never publish your comment with your name without your permission.
  • Our brand. The app, the website, the Yema name, the Yema character, her friends, their designs, lessons, recipes and texts belong to their developer. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, free license to use the app, for yourself and for non-commercial purposes, as long as you comply with these terms.
  • What you share. When you share a recipe or a food with a link, it is public until you turn it off: anyone with the link or its QR code can see it, save it in Yema or share it again. You give us permission, free of charge, non-exclusive and worldwide, to show it on tryyema.com and in Yema and to make its image, while it is shared. Once you turn it off it no longer shows; whoever already saved it in Yema keeps their copy. Only share what is yours or what you may share. Yema checks the texts before publishing them and takes down what someone reports that does not follow these terms. The house's plan is seen only by whoever has its code.
  • Dishes you share to help others. If you turn on «Share this dish to help others» (we ask your permission every time), other people on Yema see at that place the dish's name and Yema's estimate, without your name or your account, until you stop sharing it. You give us the same permission to show it in Yema. The estimate is Yema's and not the restaurant's: it may not match what it serves. We take down right away what someone reports, review it within 24 hours and no longer show what does not follow these terms.
  • Other people's content. Food data from Open Food Facts (ODbL license), USDA FoodData Central (public domain) and other sources, Google Maps content and open-source libraries belong to their owners and are used under their licenses. Each figure shows its source.

13. Third-party services

Yema works with other parties' services, which have their own terms:

  • Apple and Google: the stores, sign-in, the phone's health app and dictation.
  • Google Maps: the places in What to Order and their links. When you open a link you enter Google Maps, governed by the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service (https://maps.google.com/help/terms_maps.html) and the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). Yema isn't available in territories where Google doesn't allow Google Maps to be used.
  • Open Food Facts: data on the products you scan.
  • YouTube: "Want to see how it's made?", under a recipe, opens a YouTube search in your browser or in its app. What you watch there is governed by the YouTube Terms of Service (https://www.youtube.com/t/terms). The videos belong to their creators and may not follow Yema's amounts. Later on, Yema Plus may get a recipe out of a video you choose; if it comes, it will always credit the original video.

We aren't responsible for the content, prices, availability or policies of those services, or for what happens on a third-party site or app you reach from Yema.

14. Availability and changes

  • We work to keep Yema always running, but there may be failures, maintenance or provider outages. What you log offline is saved on your phone and uploaded when the connection returns.
  • We may improve, change or remove features. If we remove an important paid feature, we'll tell you in advance and you can cancel.
  • If we change these terms in a way that affects you, we'll tell you in the app at least 30 days in advance and ask you to accept them. If you don't, you can cancel your subscription and delete your account at no cost; what you paid remains valid until the end of the period. Changes that don't affect you (for example, fixing a typo) are published here with their date.
  • If we ever stop offering Yema, we'll tell you at least 30 days in advance, you'll be able to download your data and we'll help you request a refund for what you couldn't use.

15. Liability

  • We're responsible for what the law requires of us as a provider: that Yema works as described (the statutory guarantee of quality, suitability and safety), that we protect your data and that we assist you.
  • Yema is a guidance tool. To the extent the law allows, we aren't responsible for:
    • decisions about your diet or health that you make without consulting a professional when it was needed, or against what Yema warned you;
    • a reaction to a food when Yema told you it didn't know, that it was an estimate or that you should confirm it with the place or on the package;
    • errors in the data you logged;
    • third-party information (Google Maps, labels, menus, Open Food Facts, restaurants) that is wrong or out of date;
    • failures of third-party services we don't control (stores, the phone's system, carriers, cloud providers);
    • indirect damages, or damages that couldn't be foreseen when you accepted these terms.
  • To the extent the law allows, if we owe you compensation for anything other than the above, it's limited to what you paid for Yema Plus in the 12 months before the event.
  • These limitations don't apply where Colombian law or the law of your country doesn't allow them, nor to damage caused by willful misconduct or gross negligence, nor to harm to your life or health that we cause, and they don't restrict your rights as a consumer.
  • Your part: if you use Yema against these terms or the law (for example, you upload someone else's content without permission or attack the service) and that leads to a claim against us, you're responsible for the damage you caused, as the law provides.

16. Deleting your account, suspension and closure

  • You can delete your account and all your data at any time, in the app (More > Privacy > Delete my account) or at tryyema.com/borrar-cuenta (in Spanish for now). It's deleted immediately and can't be undone. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription bought in the store: cancel it in your Apple or Google Play account too.
  • We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, especially if it belongs to someone under 18, for fraud, for abusing the limits or the service, or for using it to harm others. When possible, we'll tell you first, explain why and let you respond. If we close a minor's account, we delete their data.
  • If we close your account without any breach on your part, we'll help you request a refund for what you couldn't use.

17. Governing law and complaints

  • These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Colombia, including the Consumer Statute (Law 1480 of 2011) and the personal data protection regime (Law 1581 of 2012), without prejudice to the non-waivable consumer rights the law of the country where you live gives you.
  • If you have a complaint, write to us first at soporte@tryyema.com. Each request gets a tracking number, with the date and time, so you can follow it, and we reply within 15 business days at most.
  • In Colombia you can also go to the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (www.sic.gov.co). The courts of Colombia have jurisdiction, without prejudice to your right, as a consumer, to go to the courts or the consumer authority of the country where you live where your law allows it. We don't force you into arbitration.
  • These terms are written in Spanish. The translations are faithful; if your country's law requires the version in your language to prevail, that one prevails.
  • If a court finds that part of these terms is invalid, the rest remains valid.
